Taste of Chao Shan
About
Recently opened in Alhambra, Taste of Chao Shan has quickly become a destination for lovers of Teochew (Chiu Chow) cuisine. Taking over the space formerly occupied by Ho Kee BBQ & Noodle, this restaurant offers a rich array of traditional dishes, with the standout being Kway Chap. This comforting noodle dish features flat rice sheets in a dark soy broth, served with a variety of flavorful accompaniments, such as pork belly, intestines, braised duck, pig’s ears, and bean curd, among others.
In addition to Kway Chap, Taste of Chao Shan is known for making its own beef and pork balls from scratch. Another crowd favorite is the daily braised goose, a rare find in many local spots. Hot pot enthusiasts praise the restaurant’s fresh ingredients, high-quality meat and vegetable selections, and the richly flavored broths. The customizable dipping sauces also add a personal touch to the dining experience.
While the space is cozy, the homey ambiance makes the wait during peak dinner hours worthwhile. Diners can visit Monday through Sunday from 10 AM to 3 PM and 5 PM to 10 PM, with the exception of Tuesdays when the restaurant is closed.
Taste of Chao Shan is the perfect spot for those seeking an authentic taste of Teochew cuisine in the heart of Alhambra.
