Sichuan Impression
About
Sichuan Impression was started by founder Kelly and her partner, Lynn 8 years ago. It all started because she liked to eat and cook and also admired her partner’s cooking skills so she decided that she wanted to start a restaurant together. The restaurant’s concept is the integration of authenticity and a new modern look, its interior features authentic Chinese art pieces that are painted from the backside, and modern color glaze glass art pieces of characters in Chinese traditional clothing.
When asked about Sichuan Impression’s roots, Kelly explained that Lynn comes from a family restaurant background based in China and Europe hence she focuses on the kitchen and its menu while Kelly handles Sichuan Impression’s business and marketing. Like Lynn, Kelly’s family comes from the restaurant industry based in Chicago and has extensive experience in running both restaurant and hotel businesses. “Therefore, to open a restaurant comes very naturally – in a way, it’s my destiny”, Kelly added.
Sichuan food specifically Sichuan peppercorn is known to provide a numbing sensation called paraesthesia, in which the lips and tongue feel as though they are vibrating or vaguely numb. Kelly has even recalled a time a customer tried Sichuan food for the very first time, “A customer called us after having our food ‘I can’t feel my lips!’, she said and Kelly had to reassure her that it will be fine and to wait 10 minutes. After a few minutes, the customer called back and even praised the food ‘I can feel my lips again! That was an amazing experience!'”.
Sichuan Impression’s bold and spicy flavors do not discourage Alhambrans from eating their specialties, Kelly emphasized how the community greatly supports the restaurant “Our food is very tasty. People would drive out to this area specifically to dine at our restaurant, and it becomes a destination spot.” Kelly explained.

Tea Smoked Pork Rib
Tea smoke is a traditional cooking method for Sichuan food. Sichuan Impression has combined that method with a modern display. They offer new, modern Sichuan food, which is not as oily and more vibrant in color. The combination of the spicy flavor and the numbing stimulation is the soul of Sichuan food.
