Luyixian
About
Tucked away in a small Alhambra parking lot off Valley Boulevard, Luyixian appears nondescript – but its menu is anything but.
Sichuan cold dishes and spicy boiled fish. Crowd-pleasing dumplings and fried rice. Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Fatty, juicy braised pork belly over rice.
Luyixian is winning the hearts and palates of local diners with the homestyle cooking of chef Yao Ye and his wife Chun Hua Tao.
Tao and Ye operated restaurants for 20 years in China’s Zhejiang province, where they grew up, they told the Los Angeles Times. They opened Luyixian in Alhambra in August of 2022 and feature Zhejiang specialties on the menu like stir-fried rice cakes and salted pork, bamboo, and tofu skin soup.
The name Luyixian means a restaurant that serves a million “lu” or soy-braised dishes. Their menu, fittingly, includes pages of dishes that have a braised component, from pork, beef, and chicken to duck head, pork trotters, and chicken feet.
Their signature dish, affectionately known as “lu rou fan,” is easily addicting – melt-in-your-mouth pork belly is served over fragrant rice, accompanied by vegetables and a soy-braised egg.
Whether you’re after a hearty meal, quick noodles, or simply looking for some familiar Chinese flavors, Luyixian’s got you covered with its welcoming atmosphere and authentic cuisine.
