About
Stationed at a strip mall at the corner of Valley and Atlantic Boulevards, Ba Le Sandwich Shop is a beloved local establishment known for its banh mi sandwiches made with soft, chewy baguette rolls.
It was founded almost 40 years ago by an Asian American couple from Vietnam, whose passion to provide the best ingredients inspired them to travel to France. There, they learned how to improve the quality of their pâté and French baguettes. Over the years, they have tweaked the original recipe to what we all enjoy today.
This mom and pop shop has been featured in the Los Angeles Times and Eater LA as one of the best places to get a banh mi sandwich in LA. Vice called it the “El Dorado” of banh mi.
Ba Le’s banh mis are filled with pickled carrots, daikon, cucumbers, cilantro and jalapeño slivers creating the perfect combination of vegetable crunch and grilled marinated meat. For $1.50 extra, you can even add a fried egg to your sandwich.
In addition to its sandwiches, the small but mighty establishment is also stocked with dessert drinks, various pork cakes, pâtés, colorful coconut and rice-based desserts. You won’t regret getting a Vietnamese coffee or Thai tea drink with your sandwich order. Just remember to bring cash, as they do not accept other forms of payment.
