Philly Jay’s Steaks

About

Monterey Park’s famous Philly Jay’s Steaks is opening its first brick-and-mortar store in Alhambra this January 2023!
Philly Jay’s Steaks originally started as a family-owned food truck serving up authentic Philly cheesesteaks with a gourmet twist to Californians. Founded by Chef Jason McClain and Vilma Amaya McClain, the sandwich shop offers more than just fast food. These cheesesteak sandwiches are special because of their fresh Amoroso Rolls flown from Philadelphia, their steaks are a special blend of rib eye and sirloin cuts, the vegetables and herbs used are all organic and prepared daily, and their fries are covered with their house-made “JJ sauce”, a sauce recipe made specially by their 7-year old daughter.

In addition to its iconic cheesesteaks, the restaurant serves a variety of delicious items such as vegan sandwiches, vegetarian options, spicy meals, and even Philadelphia’s very own, TastyKake.

Chef Jason was born and raised in Philadelphia and South Jersey. At the age of 16, he started working as a tennis instructor at a local private club. Eventually, he moved on to being the club’s busboy and dishwasher until he started helping the club’s chef in preparing orders and was then taught how to cook.
Years later, Chef Jason formally became the executive chef for the Jonathan Club in Santa Monica for almost a decade. After being in the industry for 30 years all over the world, he decided to open Philly Jay’s Steaks because he would like to make his favorite sandwich from home available in Los Angeles. From then on, Chef Jason put aside his fine dining background and opened his own food truck amidst the pandemic. “We are proud that we were able to expand and grow during Covid. We are proud of the quality and popularity of the Cheesesteaks. Also, we are most proud we are still in business during the worst inflation, pandemics, and high gas prices. We are blessed.”, Chef Jason added.
