While the majority of restaurants in Alhambra are located on Main Street and Valley Blvd, there are other great eateries scattered throughout the city that are worth highlighting.
Did you know there is an omakase in Alhambra? Located on South Fremont Ave., across the street from The Alhambra, is Kogane. “Omakase” is a meal that is picked by a chef — and you’re in safe hands with Chef Fumi, who serves dishes like dry-age bluefin chutoro and baby squid. With lunch and dinner options, Kogane offers a nigiri omakase + one hand roll + miso soup for $120 (with a $60 deposit) and $150 for dinner. Be sure to reserve your seat online!
Not a fan of raw fish? Nakazo Ramen Bistro has got you covered with delicious ramen. Located on Fremont Ave, just before the 10 freeway on ramp, Nakazo serves dishes like tonkotsu ramen, Las Carnitas ramen and rice bowls like pork chashu and kara-age. Nakazo opens seven days a week at 11:30 am and closes at 2:30 pm and reopens at 5 pm for dinner (4:30 pm on Sundays).
If Japanese food isn’t your cup of tea, did you know there’s a Mexican restaurant on Palm Ave.? El Patio Tepeyac serves special wet burritos like the hollenbeck, filled with pork, rice, beans and guacamole served with cheese on top. They also have dry burritos like the steak picado filled with beef, rice, beans and chili. The restaurant is opened for breakfast and lunch Mondays through Fridays from 9 am to 4:30 pm and closed on the weekends.
Craving to try something totally different instead? No problem. Borneo Kalimantan Cuisine will take your tastebuds on a global trip with their Indonesian, Malaysian and Singaporean cuisine. Start your meal with their roti prata (a flour based pancake served with Indonesian curry sauce), then try one of their hawker noodles or their popular lemak dish, which has their famous coconut fragrant rice served with fried chicken, fried tofu, curry egg and spicy peanut anchovy. Borneo is opened seven days a week from 11 am to 9 pm.
These restaurants are all hidden gems of Alhambra so be sure to try one or all of them and support our incredible food scene!
